Gates Construction Consultants, operating throughout the South West of England already has offices at Taunton, Barnstaple, and has just announced the opening of their third West Country office at the desirable Queens Ann Battery in Plymouth, Devon and have also been awarded ISO 9001 certification.
Gates have undertaken many local projects in the Plymouth area including 32 self-contained flats at St. Barnabas Court in Stuart Road, an Extra Care Sheltered Housing Scheme for older people in association with Sarsen Housing Association and Plymouth City Council completed last year.
The company is at present working on a similar project with Sarsen Housing Association, which will incorporate 40 self-contained flats and communal facilities at the former St. Paul’s Church site, Torridge Way, Efford.
They also carried out project work on the Cumberland Block, Raglan Barracks, Cumberland Road, Plymouth for Sarsen Housing Association. A £1.7M design and build project comprising the demolition of the existing Raglan Barracks building and the construction and completion of 24 nr dwellings comprising 7nr 2bed, 14nr 3bed and 3nr 4bed general needs dwellings together with associated external works, services and drainage.
And it is a double celebration as they have recently been awarded ISO 9001 certification. This prestigious award for quality is supported by the Government and recognised worldwide. The award recognises Gates’ commitment to an exceptional quality of service and with only around 3% of UK businesses holding this Certificate, Gates are now at the forefront of quality service and customer care.

Quote by David Coles BSc MRICS FFB, Senior Partner of Gates Construction Consultants:
“Gates is delighted to announce the opening of a new office in Plymouth, in addition to our other offices in Barnstaple and Taunton, in line with current expansion plans. To hear that we have now been awarded ISO 9001 certification makes it a double celebration.
We have always been proud of the service offered to our clients, and this has been confirmed by outside experts who are used to judging service on a daily basis in a wide variety of trades. The assessor who undertook the assessment paid particular tribute to “the investment in people and training that enables Gates to provide efficient service to their customers”.
Established since 1945, the core of Gate’s business is traditional Quantity Surveying, however, the practice has developed to provide a wide range of professional services to their clients including Project Management, Employer’s Agent as well as cost planning, funding advice and sourcing.
Strong in ‘partnering’, the company specialises in difficult and challenging projects and always remain pro-active, priding themselves on achieving a quality build, on time and within budget that exceeds client’s expectations from inception to completion. Within the practice they have management expertise on projects to £450M.
Gates have undertaken many projects in the local area, including Little Bridge House, in North Devon, the first Children’s Hospice in the South West.
They are currently working on the second hospice, Charlton Farm in Bristol on behalf of their clients, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). The Hospice is due to be completed in October this year and opening in April 2007.

“We have always enjoyed open and honest communication with Gates and they certainly have looked after us well as a client. Charlton Farm is bigger and more complex than Little Bridge House, however, I have complete faith in Gates ability to see the project through to a high standard.”
Gates have also been involved in recent projects carried out in the Exeter area including the first new school to be opened in the city for a generation, which opened at the end of last year. Gates acted as the Client’s Representative under a project-partnering contract (PPC2000), for the £2.4 million Clyst Heath nursery and community primary school. The school was completed on time and under budget and hailed a highly successful project by Devon's Executive Councillor for Children's Services, John Smith.
Quote: Nigel Bushell, Designer Devon County Council’s Devon Property Practice:
"The process was steered & directed well by Gates Construction Consultants. The whole team worked well together to move the project forward & the entire process was very 'open'.
This was the first PPC 2000 contract undertaken by Devon County Council & Gate's previous experience was very helpful. The site operation worked well in a very non-confrontational manner and all parties contributed to problem solving/cost issues. The project was completed on time & under budget."
Quote by Karen Hadley Head Teacher of Clyst Heath School:
"We are really delighted with the school. It has been built with real care and we are very pleased with the finished result.
The building has been specifically designed to allow us to adopt more flexible approaches to teaching and learning”.
